I will answer your second question first – yes – there will be LOTS of changes. We really think it is largely going to be a matter of starting anew. And we have split the admin from the front end into two files as well.

We currently have an alpha release out and hoep to move to beta by the end of October.

Today I discovered more options which are wrong on the admin side because of broken admin side translation. I can't use it as it is now.

So I'd like to modify the current translation and try and bring back the English strings for the admin side only, keeping the user side translation as it is (maybe correcting some spelling errors etc) – do you think there is an easy way to do it?

The easiest way is to load the PO file into a text editor.
IMPORTANT: You must NOT use a word processor or any form of rich text editor – it MUST be plain text. It is also important that you do make any changes other than to the actual translated text strings. Any changes to formatting, missing quotes or anything like that can render the whole file useless. But is is the quickest way to make edits.
When done – save it – load it into poEdit and save to make the MO file.
I will away now for three weeks so if you have any other questions they would be better sent to our main forum where I may be able to help with the odd question when I have internet access.

Thanks YS. In case you're still here, quick question – how do I distinguish admin side strings from user side, in order to replace them with originals?

You will find in the text file that every text string has a full path to where it is located in the code. Nearly all of our admin related strings are in the folder named /admin although some strings are used both front and back end. So this should allow you to identify them easily enough.

The .mo file needs to be here: wp-content/plugins/simple-forum/languages

You should not create any new folders – (i.e., /polish)

[ENGLISH]I have one more question, can I disable 1 column (i need only forum on http://soban.pl/forum-dyskusyjne/ I don't need more columns over there) I do this but, when I click on some subject then I have again 2 columns…can U help me?[/ENGLISH]

[POLISH]Mam jeszcze jedno pytanie, czy moge wylaczyc 1 kolumne (potrzebuje tylko forum na http://soban.pl/forum-dyskusyjne/ nie potrzebuje wiecej kolumn tam). Robie to jednak, kiedy klikne na jakis temat to mam znowu 2 kolumny…mozesz mi pomoc?[/POLISH]
